Every child has the right to be protected from abuse and neglect of any kind, whether physical, emotional, sexual, or educational. We consider that the abusive treatment of a child is not only a crime, but a sin in the eyes of God. The Family International has a zero-tolerance policy regarding the abusive treatment of children, and will permanently expel any member who violates this policy. Members are subject to the laws of their country of residence regarding reporting crimes of this nature to the appropriate authorities. The Family International is committed to the well-being of children and considers it the moral responsibility of any adult caring for minors to protect them from harm. We believe that children should be educated to recognize and deal with potentially harmful situations, and instructed to communicate with their parents or other people responsible for their care. Successfully preparing children for life includes instructing them on safety and empowering them to discern and protect themselves from situations of potential harm. Every child is precious in God’s eyes and deserves quality and responsible care, and to be loved, nurtured, protected, and enabled to develop their full potential. Children are the world’s most valuable resource and its best hope for the future. John F. Kennedy (1917–1963)

An investigation into the standards of care for cystic fibrosis patients within the NHS. The aim of this study is to visit all the specialist cystic fibrosis centres in England and Wales and to investigate how individual patients feel about the level of care that they and their family members receive at their local unit. I will be visiting each centre on a number of occasions throughout the next twelve months to speak with a number of patients, both as inpatients on the ward and those attending clinic, specialist staff, the consultants, the physiotherapists, the catering staff and even the cleaners to gain an insight into how their centre is run. Through an anonymous survey I will investigate the good points and the bad points of those attending the centres and find out what they feel works and what doesn’t. I will then collate the data and present my findings in such a way that conclusions could and possibly should be taken into account during future decision making processes regarding protocol, patient and staff care and the general day to day running of the centres. I will be supporting the investigation with photographic evidence, charts and surveys. Appendix 1 is a copy of the questionnaire sent out by the Cystic Fibrosis trust. This was a recent study sent to the patients who attended the Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham. The following is a direct quote from the clinical care project manager of the CF Trust. “One of the points on our compliance matrix is that a user survey is undertaken every three years, every time a Peer Review takes places this will be checked and a survey carried out. The last Peer Review in South Wales took place in April 2008. “ As you will see from appendix 1, the survey is very minimalistic and in my belief is such that it would need to be handed to every patient on the CF ward during every stay to be of any benefit.

The following estimates represent citizens killed or starved to death by their own Communist governments since 1918. These numbers do not include war dead. The governments are sorted by body count (highest to lowest). All numbers are mid-estimates. While this list is as complete as I have been able to determine, it is evolving. Some numbers are incomplete and there are still five Communist countries that have the potential to kill more of their citizens. Over the next year, each government will be profiled in detail on this website. If you find this interesting, check out Nazi Body Count.

Canadian laser physicist Donna Strickland became the 209th scientist to win the Nobel Prize in physics on Oct. 2. She is only the third who is also a woman, and the celebration of her achievement also highlighted the apparent double standard that female scientists still face. Wikipedia rejected a biographical entry about her earlier this year, claiming she wasn't yet notable enough. Observers questioned on Twitter why the University of Waterloo still hasn't given her the title of full professor (for which Strickland, it turns out, has never applied). Grating as that feels in 2018, the frustrations facing the previous female scientist to win the physics Nobel 55 years ago are even more appalling.

Men without Chests/Hearts. Those who lack them lack the specifically human element, the trunk that unites intellectual man with visceral (animal) man, and may be called "men without chests". The final chapter describes the ultimate consequences of this debunking: a distant future in which the values and morals of the majority are controlled by a small group who rule by a "perfect" understanding of psychology, and who in turn, being able to "see through" any system of morality that might induce them to act in a certain way, are ruled only by their own unreflected whims. In surrendering rational reflection on their own motivations, the controllers will no longer be recognizably human, the controlled will be robot-like, and the Abolition of Man will have been completed.

It is not merely book learning, a narrow academic skill, or test-taking smarts.

Along with it being our fifth anniversary, we have also reached our 1000th Free Resource of the Day Email. And for this free resource we wanted to do something special, so we've just added 1000 new free audio books from LibriVox. LibriVox.org is a great site which brings together volunteers to read books in the public domain that they then offer as free audio book downloads on MP3. The last time we added titles from LibriVox was over two years ago and since then they have grown enormously with over 2500 titles now available. We sifted through all their audio books and picked out the best titles based on literary merit, quality of narration, and how interesting they sounded. The narrators and recording quality have definitely improved with great new readers like Cori Samuel and Mike Vendetti. For many of the major classics they have multiple versions now so we've chosen what sounds like the best edition. We've also added the podcast feeds of the all audio books so you can listen to and download them all through our site. To download zips, subscribe through iTunes, get the eBooks, see chapter headings, and more click on the links over to LibriVox. Before you dive in please note that LibriVox is calling for donations to help them with the operating costs of their site so please do if you're able to. We've kicked off our contributions with a $100 donation. Keep LibriVox alive by donating today: Donate to LibriVox Now you can browse over 1100 LibriVox titles on LearnOutLoud.com: All LibriVox Titles on LearnOutLoud with 1000 New Titles Among the 1000 new audio books there are 150 free audio books specifically for kids. All these new free audio books for kids can be found in our Kids Free Stuff Section: Kids Free Stuff Section with 150 New Free Audio Books from LibriVox And here are some of the great new audio books we've added by category:

Reflective Research Portfolio on Public Health v2

This assignment has allowed me to engage in a reflective process on the nature of public health by examining past experience and discovering new approaches and methods of interpretation. I have focused on my weaker areas of research application including the reflexivity log, interviews and quantitative methods within a group setting given my past approach of working individually.
At this time I feel my research focus for Professional Doctorate will be a mixed method triangulation which I have attempted to investigate within this assignment.
Utilising the reflective approach to revisit old research with a new perspective.

Socialist party Liverpool The city that dared to fight
Preface
Since 1979 the conditions and rights of working people appear to
have been crushed by the Thatcher juggernaut. In reality, the
working class has put up ferocious opposition to the Tory
government. This reached its height in the titanic year-long miners'
strike of 1984-5 and in the stand of the Liverpool City Council
between 1983-7.
Liverpool - a City that Dared to Fight. Book cover by Alan
Hardman
But whereas the miners' strike has been the subject of detailed examination and
comment, mostly of a superficial and facile character by capitalist journalists, a veil of
silence has been drawn over the drama which unfolded in Liverpool. Much abuse,
verbal and written, has poured down on the heads of the 'Liverpool Militants.

Behind the scenes with the UK's travelling showmen
Life for travelling showmen is increasingly hard – but they wouldn't have it any other
way, as Nione Meakin discovers.
In his cabin, Mark Thurston eyes the punters milling around King's Lynn Mart. The
Norfolk fair – held every February since Tudor times – marks the opening of the
travelling season, and like everyone else, Thurston is anxious to get off to a good
start. For him, and thousands of other UK showmen, the next eight months will be
spent on the road, living out of a touring caravan and setting up shop in around 30
fairs where his family has traditionally held pitches. His journey is as familiar as the
friends, relatives and colleagues he will see along the way, also following in the
footsteps of their fathers and grandfathers.
One hundred years ago, the Mart would have been packed. Today, trade is slow.
Against a backdrop of theme parks and advanced home entertainment, the public is
no longer as enamoured with the fun fair as it once was. But for the showmen, there
is no question of giving up. Most have never known another way of life, nor have any
wish to. Brought up on the fairs, Thurston's family stopped travelling when he was
12. "Mum's not from this background and it was very hard for her to get used to," he
says. "I think that's what broke them down in the end. Dad wanted to carry on
travelling and she didn't."
The family moved to a house in Cambridgeshire, Thurston went to school, and his
parents later divorced. But despite trying his hand as a mechanic and scrap dealer,
he yearned to return to the fairground. "I don't like being in the same place all the
time," he says. So, aged 21, he bought the Scream Machine – a top-of-the-range
ride that spins its shrieking cargo around and upside down at increasing speeds.
That was four years ago, and he hasn't looked back. In a few months, he'll marry his
fiancée Sherelle Gilbey, who travels with her sweet kiosk. "It's a stressful job, but I
like it," he says. "This is the only thing I've ever really enjoyed. I'm a showman. It's in
my blood.

Children like to watch television. Dora, Diego, Wonder Pets, Disney cartoons and more. Parents often think that all animated television shows are created equal, well they are not. Just because there is a cartoon on the tv, it does not mean that the message within the show is one meant for children. Take Family Guy for instance. Although it may be a very entertaining show for adults, it is not one that I would want my children to be watching. But even within the realm of children's animated shows, they are not made with the same intent and purpose behind them. I like to limit the amount of television that I allow my children to watch, what they do view I want to be educational. Cartoons Through The Ages By Madhura Sansare Cartoons have existed since forever, and have always been a major part of our childhoods. Madhura Sansare goes through the pages of history to bring you the crux of cartooning, and how its evolution represents our evolution as a society at large

Celtic Christianity or Insular Christianity refers broadly to certain features of Christianity that were practiced across the Celtic-speaking world during the Early Middle Ages. [1] Some historians have described a distinct Celtic Church, embodying Chalcedonian Christianity, that united the Celtic peoples and distinguished them from what would become the Roman Catholic Church after the Great Schism. Other historians classify it as merely a set of distinctive religious practices occurring in those areas. [2] Scholars now reject the former notion, but note that there were certain traditions and practices used in both the Irish and British churches but not in the wider Christian world. [3] These include a distinctive system for determining the dating of Easter, a style of monastic tonsure, a unique system of penance, and the popularity of going into "exile for Christ". [3] Additionally, there were other practices that developed in certain parts of Britain or Ireland, but which are not known to have spread beyond a particular region. The term therefore denotes regional practices among the insular churches and their associates, rather than actual theological differences.

Technoethics – Where is the wisdom for emerging technology?
Whether merely a lifeless amoral 'tool' or a solidified embodiment of human values "ethics of
technology" refers to two basic subdivisions:-
• The ethics involved in the development of new technology—whether it is always,
never, or contextually right or wrong to invent and implement a technological
innovation.
• The ethical questions that are exacerbated by the ways in which technology extends or
curtails the power of individuals—how standard ethical questions are changed by the
new powers.
